It is far more common to hear settlers who commit violence against unarmed civilians referred to as ‘extremists’ rather than ‘terrorists.’”

#OtD 19 May 1920 a shootout took place in the town of Matewan, WV between striking miners and private detectives, who had arrived in town to evict miners' families. Seven detectives, one bystander and two miners were killed. #OtD 19 May 1935 200 banana loaders employed by the United Fruit Company in the port in Kingston, Jamaica went on strike. British police later opened fire, wounding one woman but the strike spread and became general https://t.co/yn4D8VjwC6 https://stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9130/kingston-banana-loaders-strike?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon

Brits loved free labor to benefit them. They wrecked havoc all over the place they ruled. Now they are going through some karma.
in reply to Working Class History

Egads, whats wrong with people? Shooting striking workers is basically saying to oneself and the world, "I own faulty equipment and am chucking it in an attempt to get the other equipment to start working again by coercion."
Thus removing any doubt that the people taking that action have no idea:
1.) What humanity is.
2.) What a complete wonder life is.
3.) What it is to care about anything beyond themselves.
I think I just identified sociopathic behavior.

If you're new to Mastodon I'd totally ignore people telling you how to run your own account.

Crosspost from other sites all you want. Post whatever you want. It's your account.

Too much clubhouse gatekeeping.

Discoverability is a problem, right.

But really, people manage to choose an email server and communicate their email addresses. They don't need to be able to run that mailserver to do that. I really really don't get how mastodon is different...

Saw this and immediately wondered if the sound a parent made stepping on it in the dark in ancient times is the same noise we'd make today

a major problem of suburbia is that it has functionally pushed all of the vast open spaces for creative labor far far beyond the city to the point of inaccessibility to all but the most privileged city dwellers and suburbanites
in reply to tranny demon hacker

and because stuff was close by, trains or streetcars were a reasonable way to get there

but because of suburbs, the distance to those kinds of environments is quite vast

in reply to tranny demon hacker

when we think about things like rights to housing, we also need to think about rights to creative space. an apartment is no place to make furniture or build bikes

I built this "Little Free Art Gallery" for my wife a few years ago. She's turned into a prolific artist over the years and creates way more art than our house can handle, and she's run out of friends to gift them to. So now she can give her art away to the neighborhood.

This polo seems different somehow. I think you're fine.

How can this be. How can the killing and destruction go on and on and on. How can a refugee camp be bombed and there be no outrage or reaction. How can US continue supplying arms when there is a new invasion. And what has happened to ceasefire negotiations after Israel’s latest rejections?

Some pay for bombs.
And some get the money.

Here we go again... I closed out my Facebook account several years ago because the "breast bots" at Facebook blocked my blog for portraying indigenous people in traditional attire. I wrote and protested dozens of times and got no response.

Now I've gotten another warning for a photo of shirtless young indigenous children who were curious about National Geographic photographer Charlie Hamilton James recent work in Manu National Park. Ridiculous! And once again my appeal was ignored.

Yet on a nearly daily basis I have to manually block invitations from erotic accounts that post lewd and suggestive photos scantily disguised with digital pasties. Either teach the AI to be actually intelligent about these issues or get thinking humans involved!

Here's a general life advice:
Live your life in such a way so that people won't hold spontaneous fireworks celebrations on the news that you may have died.

[help] could use some parts advice on building a diy nass for docker/media

hi
i would like to build a media/download/nass that more expandible drive wise
(needs to be able to stream media(jellyfin /use docker containers
and have 3 a4 sata ports)

i currently im thinking on buying this motherboard/with built in cpu
asrock-j3455-itx-mini-itx-
and planning on adding cheap 16 gig ddr3 stics

the nice thing is
its got 4x sata 3 ports and a m.2 for like 65 euro total

so my question is should i get one .if its still wort it .and would this work with my specified needs
also what do i use as a psu /how much psu power do i need for 4 drives

and what are my exspansion options with the picie .and m2

would love to ad more sata conections
trough the m.2 and pcie if posible

i kinda need a nass/media dowload pc /that has a few sata ports .and can run sonarr/prowlarr/jellyfin /qbittorent -running dietpi os /or debian

and run a few ssd/or/hd drives in raid 0 that is about it (ive have no need for drive redundancy thb it all gonna be torrented anime anyway)
best leave no evidance of pireacy lol

in reply to ilco

Have you heard of capital letters and punctuation?

That's too hard to read.

in reply to ilco

I think that CPU only supports up to 8GB RAM. Also the m2 is only for Wifi cards I think.

I have a somewhat similar ASUS board and it is quite ok otherwise, but don't expect wonders from that CPU.

A bit annoying will be that you need to either use one of the four SATA ports for the system drive, or find some way to boot from the PCIe 1x port. The similar ASUS board that I have does not support booting from NVMe drives though, so even if you added an adapter for this it probably wouldn't work (maybe if there is an BIOS update for it).

You could boot from a USB3 drive... not ideal but workable. Or add more SATA ports via an PCIe 1x extension card... but those might be hard to find, usually they require a longer (4x?) PCIe port.

P.S.: if you end up buying that board I can sell you 2x 4GB DDR3 SODIMMs that I have currently no use for :p

I didn't even know what milk duds were until I just looked them up. All I needed to read was "Hershey's" and realised that whatever they are, they're horrible.

Are your Mastodon posts sometimes surrounded by a brightly coloured line and you're not sure why?

It could be because you have posted an image, video or audio file without an alt text description. Some server admins use a special bit of custom code which highlights posts that are missing descriptions.

The idea is to remind people to add descriptions, so that the posts with attached media are accessible to blind and/or deaf people. You can edit in descriptions if they are missing.

His would-be majesty’s journalists!

You will not hear about this in Turkey's oppositional press. Ekrem İmamoğlu, current Istanbul mayor and a strong candidate for the next presidential election, traveled to Rome with a group of 73 people for the signing ceremony of the 2027 European Olympic Games to be held in Istanbul. The delegation stayed at the five-star Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa, 2 kilometers from Rome city center, according to Mustafa Ali Aykol of…
